Mission Statement

The Oregon Society of Addiction Medicine is a collegial body of health care professionals in Oregon which promotes the awareness of drug addiction as a treatable disease and supports and encourages the respectful, knowledgeable, and skillful care of addicted patients.

In order to meet this mission, the members of ORSAM are committed to:

• Providing an opportunity for fruitful interaction among addiction medicine physicians and other treatment providers,
• Providing educational services to addiction treatment providers,
• Working to maintain and improve the access to addiction treatment services for all Oregonians in need of those services,
• Networking with other state medical organizations including hospital staffs and managed care organizations to promote the value of addiction medicine services (and to enhance the status of Addiction Medicine), and

Increasing the awareness and knowledge of the public and the medical profession that drug dependency is a biopsychosocial disease and that effective treatment resources are available in Oregon.
